Week 13 - Never Forget

This was the last week we were going to be graced by Mr Brigstock's presence since he is leaving us at the end of the term unfortunately and I think that is going to be a great handicap for our team since he was a great player who week in and week out tried his best and kept us motivated and on our feet. To make him proud, we tried to get him the most opportunities in front of goal considering it is his last chance to catch up to me on the score board.

I think I played well considering I always tried to look up for a pass and not just run head down which made our play more fluid and that is why we won most of our matches. I played very unselfishly and sometimes a bit too unselfish since instead of always trying to go for goal I tried to pass it to someone else who may be better positioned than me. However, I did manage to score over 10 goals and I think I am slowly catching up to Stefan since I have passed a total of 100 goals in 13 weeks which is a personal record for me since for the 2 years I have been here I was never able to achieve such a target. My dribbling was satisfactory, I didn't try to dribble so much considering it was Mr Brigstock's last day on the team so I always tried to play more collectively, however, I did try to dribble with the ball several times when there wasn't many options for a pass and I was successful in doing so.

This was the last week before the end of term and I will try to stay fit till the next Thursday after school football in order to keep my goal per week ratio at about 10 and to be able to help my team better.

Week 12 - Anger Management Issues

On a collective side, our team played extremely well since we communicated well considering we had Mr Gray on our team this week and he is a great communicator and we always played unselfishly. However, personally, I let myself down not only because of my shooting but because sometimes I lost the ball needlessly. However, my dribbling was the best it has been and my stamina has improved since I ran back to defend and then advanced for a counter attack several times. I scored several goals, though I don't remember the exact amount, because I was always trying to find space and get the ball in order to score or create a chance for others to score.

Next week, I will try to be more focused since I did a couple of stupid mistakes and I need to stop shooting and praying but rather try to put more accuracy on my shots so I can score more and get my team more points. I am aiming to score 10 goals next week and have at least 5 assists. Another aim for me is to try and dribble Stefan more often rather than just passing it if I get the opportunity to since this would be a new challenge for me and since he is a good player this would put my skill to the testing.

L'Expert en Français

An IB student needed my help for his work i.e. he needed me to check for mistakes and show him where he went wrong in order to correct it. I made sure to take my time in checking for mistakes in order for him to get the best feed back possible and see where he went wrong so that next time he can do it with fewer mistakes. I made sure to read over the text several times over to make sure I didn't miss anything out so that I would be as efficient as possible. This was something new for me since it has been a long while since people have asked me to check for any mistakes in their work so they can work on it.

Next time, I think I should maybe put a short explanation of why I checked what I did so that they understand their mistakes better and that will reduce the changes of such things occurring again.

VIP Meeting

Today, the two groups whose mission statements were selected met up in order to create one final mission statement which would represent the whole school and be posted on the website for potential student's parents to notice and possibly influence to come to this school.

I did my best to contribute to the ideas and pointed out certain things which needed to be done in order for this task to be done well. In my opinion, I think we didn't discuss enough as a group and we didn't mount to the level of skill we normally do probably because communication was a barrier for us.

Tomorrow, we are supposed to have a second meeting where we will have hopefully finished writing it and I will try to keep up my involvement in the group so that my ideas are taken into consideration and that the communication barrier will be broken down so that we get as many opinions as possible to increase the quality of the final product. Hopefully we will be able to assemble a desired mission statement to represent the whole school.

First try … Not bad

Today, I went to Friday football in order for me to improve my skill and keep fit so that my stamina will increase for Thursdays which will hopefully boost my performance as well as contribute to our team's victory.

I think that I could have been more determined since I didn't fully take it seriously considering I didn't expect it to be as competitive as yesterday and I think that limited my capability of learning and improving myself. However, considering I was one of the better players attending, I didn't keep the ball to myself too long but rather passed it to other people to make the experience more pleasurable for everyone since no one likes one person keeping the ball to themselves.

My shot accuracy could have been better and the technique I applied for them needs improving since I am mostly trying to kick it hard with some direction whereas I should sacrifice some of the power for more accuracy since that is how I will be able to score goals.

It has been a long time since I haven't played football just to relax and I think I will continue attending football on Fridays since it is a good way to enjoy myself without being under pressure in any way and that is the best way of improving.

Week 11 - Just Can't Lose

Personally, I think my passing was a little sloppy at times and sometimes my dribbling could have been better since I lost the ball occasionally but that was only rarely. The rest of the time I moved around well on and off the ball in order to create shots on goal and that is why this week I scored more than Stefan. I think I was able to score at least 10 and get a couple of assists since I looked up to see if someone was better positioned than me for a shot which created a united atmosphere on our team.

Not only was I good offensively but I did my part defensively as well since I made sure to help my team out in defence when they needed me to and I stayed back a couple of times to let my other team mates have a go at goal.

I think that I should be more careful with my passing next week and maybe try to only dribble when I really need to so that I don't risk losing the ball unnecessarily. I hope to score at least 8 next week including a hat trick in a game since for the past few weeks I have scored a couple, and to have at least 5 assists.

"It is an honour to be here today"

After being told that our group was one of the two to be selected to create a mission statement for this school, we were told to write a speech to present in front of several people after having received our well-earned rewards.

This was a whole new challenge for me since this is going to be the first speech I create to read myself in front of people in an actual ceremony. I tried my best to make the speech sound elegant, formal and emotional in order to appeal to the audience I will have to face and include thanks to certain people which contributed to our road to success. I think we should have worked as a group more in order to get more ideas into our speech to reflect the fact we all won.

If I have to do this again sometime I think I would spend more time on the speech and make a plan before writing things down so that I know exactly what I am going to do rather than improvise whilst writing which may lower the quality of the content.

Week 10 - Child's Play

I played very well this week since I always looked up to see if there was a pass that could be made and I constantly moved around to create space and also so that I could find a pass when I was on the ball. My passing was always accurate and my dribbling was pretty good even though I messed up once or twice but kept control of the ball. I did well to go defend when my team needed me to but I mostly played an offensive role since that is my best position currently.

We played exceptionally well as a team since we were always passing it around and supporting each other which is the main reason why we did so well this week.

Next week, I hope to score about 8 goals which is raising the bar for myself since I am used to setting myself 7 goals but ever since today's performance where I think I scored about 9 or 10 goals, I think I can keep this up along with my assists so my aim is to get at least 5 assists. I hope to try dribbling with the ball a bit more since I need to develop my confidence and skill.

Video will be uploaded tomorrow.

Owned

This is a small video about a skill I taught to some friends which I like using. This helped me work collaboratively with others, learn how to teach people a skill and undertake a new challenge since I tried to do it another way at the same time as teach them the normal way.

Week 9

We started off terribly to be honest most likely because our goal keeper wasn't here so clean sheets were hard to obtain and our defence seemed very weak. As the games went on however, we started to play better as a team defensively and offensively since we started picking up more points and winning more games. I think at the start I didn't play well since I didn't look energetic but that was because I had a long and tiring day at school but that shouldn't be an accuse for my poor play at the start. However, I picked up the pace later on since I was always pressure the opponents and trying to make myself available to my team mates so that we could move forward. I think my passing was satisfactory but wasn't the best since we did lose possessions as a result of some of my passes and they didn't always result in the effect I wanted it to even though we didn't lose possession. My dribbling was good as you will be able to see with the video since I am doing very well to keep control of the ball which I think is a hard thing to have and comes with a lot of practice.

I achieved my target for goals scored and assisted and I think that having that aim boosted my determination since when there were only two games left and I had only scored 5, I gave myself a boost so that I would later on go on and score 4 including 3 in one game.

Next week, I will try to be energetic straight away rather than slowing get into the game since I think that is why we didn't get as many points as we could have; sloppiness and lack of energy. I hope to keep scoring at least 7 goals per week and assisting at least 5.

The video is currently being uploaded to YouTube so it will be either up tomorrow or on Saturday so keep checking for it.

Mission Statement of BISM

We were given the challenge of creating a mission statement for our school since, apparently, the current one does not meet a satisfactory level for the IB. I saw this as an opportunity to use my vocabulary in order to make this mission statement short but attractive at the same time. We worked in a group and I contributed quite a lot in the creation of this short paragraph which was going to represent the school's objective. I tried to create my own mission statement after contributing to a group creation and I think I did well since I put a lot of detail in a short paragraph which is something I need to practice on for exams and essays since I often write too much.

This was a new challenge for me since I had never written a mission statement before so it also taught me a new skill since I might need it in the future. It also improved my communication skills and collaboration as a group which are very important aspects of life.

If I was to do this another time, I think as a group we should write down ideas before we start writing so that we know exactly what we want to write instead of improvising along the way since we didn't all agree on what we should write during the moment which was ineffective.

Week 8

This week we played to a good standard unlike last week where we couldn't seem to get our act together so we did a really good come back today. I scored several goals and I think I'm catching up to Stefan, our current top scorer, I also managed to get several assists. On the technical side of things, I think I did well since I tried running with the ball more often and it turned out very efficient since we always ended up in front of the opponent's goal. However, sometimes I do think I could have passed it instead of dribbled or taken a shot so next time I'll try to look at the my surrounding more often to find any available passes. I moved around well to create options and to create space for others by moving a defender away from the one with the ball and instead towards me so that they could take a shot and that was very useful for the success of our team.

I think I need to put in more commitment in defence since I'm becoming too much of a striker and even though I am effective offensively I need to help out my team defensively more often so we concede less goals and take no risks in losing a match. I also need to practice on my shots since many of them are off target or not good enough to score since I got frustrated when my brother was in goal and kept on saving my shots but when I did score against him, it was such a relief :)

Next week, I hope to score at least 5 goals again and have at least 3 assists so that we keep on winning and scoring goals since I am the top scorer on my team. I will try to be more defensive and also look around me to see if I can pass instead of shoot or dribble with the ball so that we have a fast movement with the ball and are able to score faster.

I will upload a link to the video once it is uploaded.

It isn't showing off if you back it up

Today, I tried to beat my score for the challenge of kick-ups and after several tries I finally reached to my personal best and challenge best of 205. This has truly taught me to never give up even though things seem very hard at times cause after a while I couldn't even reach 100 kick-ups and I started doubting myself but I carried on and I ended up beating my personal score of 168 with 205. I kept my head cool when I passed this record in order to carry on and to get over 200 since during the moment I told myself that that was what I was aiming for and I'm proud that I managed to get over 200 kick-ups.

However, I'm not going to stick with 205 as a record since I want to reach higher than that and get at least 250 so tomorrow I will try to do so. I think that whilst I'm doing it I will try to alternate feet more often so that not only does it look better but it would also help my control of my weaker foot which is my right one since I am left footed.

Week 7

This week wasn't that good of a week for us since we didn't get as many points which, I think, was due to poor passing and positioning and our goal keeper was absent so we had to lend one from the other teams. I think we should have played for defensively since in my eyes we were always too concentrated on our offensive plays since we all wanted to score. I managed to score at least 5 which isn't bad but I hope that next week I will be able to score a bit more than that. Personally, I think I was more confident on the ball especially during the last few games since I was willing to try out dribbles which were all effective and well-executed. Some games I played offensively and others defensively in order to let the others try and score for themselves as well. However, I think I could have been both offensive and defensive during all games rather than alternate my playing style so that I help out my team a lot more. I don't think there was much wrong with my control of the ball, however, I think my shots could do with a lot more improving and accuracy since most of the time it is just "kick and pray"even though one of my goals was a beautiful lob over the goal keeper which I scored in the first match.

Next week, I hope to be more energetic and play all over the pitch to help out my team by doing such things as moving into positions that can open up plays or by pressuring the other team. My aim will be to score 6 goals and have at least 5 assists since this week I think I had about 4 or so even though normally I am a good play maker so this week wasn't the best one for me even though I think my confidence has increased a lot throughout the last few weeks.

This week, I decided to try out a brand new software just to test out new things and I found it very different from the one I used to use so that was a new challenge for me and I learnt new skills from that, however it still doesn't allow me to edit videos with the initial quality, I have to still dumb down the quality which is something I need to deal with quickly.

For the challenge of kick-ups I got a 144 on my second try ... your move Mr Gray.

I will upload a link to the video once it is done.

Soirée

Today, my parents were planning to invite some friends of theirs over however, they couldn't organise everything by themselves therefore they needed to rely on me to help them a little for the organisation. They wanted me to make a playlist of music which they could play in the background to create a relaxing atmosphere so I had to search for music which could be used for that. I also had to burn the songs onto a CD so that they could play it with the loud speakers we have at home.
The problem was that my parents didn't specify what kind of music they wanted so there was a slight misunderstanding since my mother ended up changing her mind with what she wanted however I did act reflectively and quickly came up with a different set of songs which she liked so I had the job done quite quickly. If I was to do this again, I think I would ensure that I know exactly what people want and be sure that they are sure about what they want too before I actually get going with what I have to do.
This was a new challenge for me since I hadn't done this for others before merely for myself as a source of entertainment and it taught me more about working with others and communicating well.

International Day

Today's International Day was a lot more entertaining than I actually expected since being in charge of an activity and entertaining other kids from different year group was an interesting experience. I think we were very reflective and quick-to-act since we tried to find ways to make our activities last longer so that the children wouldn't be bored and we kept on evolving on that so that we filled the whole time without any long pauses and I think that is one of the reasons we had so much positive feed-back from the students. We were well-organised since we had all the equipment we needed for our activity and we knew exactly what we were going to do. Our activities were well chosen since it provided knowledge as well as entertainment which is what we had to do and it proved very successful.

I think that if we were going to do this again, we should plan everything out since we changed the planning of activities several times before International Day and that caused some confusion and waste of time. I think that if we were going to test others with their music knowledge, we should have a collection of songs that they would know since most of them they had no idea what the name of the song is and that was one of the problems we had which the students found not so good. Also we should be more focused on decorations as well since our room wasn't as colourful as others e.g. the group next door to our room which was very well decorated and very attractive.

Considering the reaction of the people we were entertaining, we did a good job since throughout the day as we developed techniques to improve our activities people seemed to really enjoy the time they had with our group since we were all laughing and having a good time. The music we put on in the background kept a dynamic atmosphere which was very pleasant to work in since I think all of us were motivated by it, including the students.

Overall, I look forward to doing this again next year cause it was an amazing experience which taught me new skills, to work well with others, to consider the cultural background of others and I undertook a new challenge.

"Experience" vs. Youth

At lunch, some of us IB students were selected to play against the teachers and I was the only one in my year so that is something to be proud of. We beat them with a score I can't remember because I stopped counting after a while and I was able to score one goal. I think I should have been more offensive since most of the time I was back in defence which I think was a waste since I could have been very useful up-front since I do have a lot of skill on the ball and my finishing is good. If we have another match like that I will try to be more of an attacking player rather than always staying in defence. I think that sometimes I should have looked for a pass on the floor since I tried to lob it several times and most of those times we lost possession even though some of those long passes were very successful.

As for after school, needless to say the ones that play at lunch were exhausted which is probably why this week wasn't as intense and our team didn't do as well; we were all tired. I think that I should have been more energetic since sometimes my game was sloppy and I wasn't very concentrated so next time such a thing happens I think I should remain focused no matter what the consequences. I didn't score as much as I usually do but I got a lot of assists since instead of mostly going for a shot, I decided to pass to a player in a better position than me. The week after the holidays, I will try to get my striking boots back on and put my game face on, so to say. I hope to be more energetic since I will try to go swimming during most of the holidays.

BIS: because you're worth it

We went around school to look for any boards which could use an upgrade and my group and I decided to modify the one in the stair case towards the Maths and English rooms. We knew exactly what we needed to do so there was no time wasted in thinking things through. We got the material we needed and when we ran out of something we asked where we could find some more instead of just standing there doing nothing. So our group was efficient. However, when we needed more staplers there was only one person needed to carry this task but three people went to ask which isn't very efficient since two of those people could have been helping out to do something else.
If we were to do this sometime again, I think we should think about the positioning of things more carefully so that we get the best satisfaction out of our work and that things plan out exactly as we want them too.
This activity helped me develop skills in creativity and service since I was able to help the school community by using my imagination. I undertook something I had never done before and I learnt how to collaborate with others more effectively.

What a way to finish the season

Todays match was an elimination one since if we won we'd be competing for 3rd place but if we lost it was over, so as you can probably imagine we lost 5-3 unfortunately but I have to say it was the most amazing match I have ever played.

Our coach put me as a striker since last weeks match against each other showed my talent as an offensive player and I scored 2 goals. One of them was a beautiful turn against a defender and a volley into the back of the net. The second one was me getting the ball because of the pressure I put on the defenders who had the ball, then I dribbled through 2 and slide it past the keeper's reach. I had numerous other opportunities to score and if I talk to you this week you will hear me complaining about the fact I didn't score 3 since I once headed the ball and it just when over the bar and the other times were when the keeper dived to the ball before I got a chance to tap it in.

Overall, I think I should have gone into space a bit more and called for the ball rather than expect it to come to me. There were some moments I think I should have passed it instead of dribbled it but that was only once or twice.

Even though we lost, we got trophies for being "the best sportsmanship team" since out of all the teams competing we weren't too violent and aggressive and we respected our opponents unlike other teams.

Since the season is over for us, I plan to go swimming on the weekends for an hour each day since I finally got the health certificate.

Showing Yr 9s how it's done

I played a football match which was part of a tournament with Yr 13s and we played against Yr 9s which we easily beat without trying our best, however, we did support them and tell them that what they did was good to give them a bit of confidence in themselves. If anything I think we should have played more seriously so that the lower year would get the idea that we are trying our best and not treating them as a sort of joke. Next week, we are probably gonna play against Yr 10 or 11 and I think we should be fully focused during those matches so that we assure our victory.
Considering preparation, I think I should be more prepared since I forgot my kit so maybe I should give myself reminders or something because I ended up borrowing shorts and uncomfortable shoes and played shirtless which prevented me from playing to my best.

Week 5

This week I think our team didn't play as well as we used to for a reason I'm not too sure of but one of the reasons could be that we were all to offensive and wanted to score. I, honestly, was too offensive and the times I was defensive I wasn't as enthusiastic and hard-working and that let me down and I feel like I disappointed the team indirectly. Even though I scored a lot of goals I think I should try more to stay in defence so that others have a chance to go up front ( I did it occasionally but not often enough). However, my man marking was good, I communicated more and I tried out a lot of new skills which actually paid off so I hope to try some new ones next week as well. My aim for next week is to keep my position as second top scorer but I should stay in defence a bit more even though I play very well offensively. Also, I should keep my cool more since this one person kept on fouling me and I did get pretty angry at him for doing so, so my other aim is to calm down and just take the foul that is given to me rather than get upset about it.

I decided to also expand my creativity since when editing I decided to not only put some effects and music but also narrate through everything with music in the background to make the video more interesting which I hope it will be for you guys.

C.A.S Movie

For C.A.S, we were told we had to make a 3 minute silent movie and I decided to be in a group which included Han and Benny. We evaluated possible ideas we could all participate in and be good at so that we would find it possible to do. We set ourselves particular dates where we would meet so we would be able to film things and I also did a bit outside school since that would help with time management.

I think we should have been more organised since some of it was improvisation and we should have maybe considered a wider variety of ideas which would require less skill from us so that we could spend more time on the editing. Also, I think we should have left ourselves more time to edit since we only finished filming the day before we had to present the final product. I think that the editing could have been a bit better since there was an issue about fitting the music and the film together which kind of ruined the film itself. The major problem was the text we put in because it wasn't well positioned and the credits were too long but that was to fix the music and film issue.

I think that the quotes I put on the film were good because it was motivational and it made people think about what was written. The choice of music was also good it was just the fitting in which caused a problem. The slow-motion effects put in made people able to enjoy what was being done more than if it was at normal speed. The skill in the movie was pretty impress especially when Han solved the rubics cube in under a minute.

If we have to do this again sometime soon, I think we should spend more time thinking about what we could do and communicate better so that we know exactly what we want to do. Also, planning exactly what will be done will help us keep on track and save time so that the editing will be more precise and the final product will be more satisfactory.

Win by forfeit

Today, the team we were supposed to face didn't show up therefore we won by forfeit and I think we made it to the semi-finals. Instead of just wasting time by doing nothing we decided to pick teams among us and play a small sided game which my team ended up winning. I scored 3 goals most of which were power shots I prayed to go in, however, I did put a good trajectory in my shots so there was no surprise they went in. I think I should have played with more motivation instead of not trying my best since it is still a match and my team mates were counting on me to play at my best. I tried out some skills which turned out pretty well and I hope I will be able to do them next week since I was told I'd play midfield after the performance I showed on the pitch today as a good offender and defender. I tried to do some long passes since that is something I want to be able to do more of since I do them well. The thing that let myself down the most was my own determination since I was taking it easy instead of trying but this was only because I didn't consider this as serious which I think I should have.

Week 4 - Sorrow

I decided to put some slow-motion moments in the video to make it more interesting and to show the most amazing parts of the video so that people can see what the person did which is so special. It takes me a long time to edit these but I believe I get better every time I make a new one.

This week, I think I played too offensive and I should have played more defensive even though I scored a lot of goals which helped my team to victory this week once again. I tried out some skills as you will see in the video so that I can improve my talent on the ball and control of the ball. I tried to put my head up so that I was more aware of my environment but in my opinion I didn't do that enough and next week I will try to fix that. Instead of going for the goal I quickly looked up to see if I could make a pass to a team mate which was in a better position than me. I was more communicative than last week which helped out my team since they were aware of a "man on" or that I was open for a pass. I think we played well as a team but our defence was a bit weak since everyone wanted to go up front and score goals sometimes, however, there was always at least one of us covering deep so that we could stop any counter-attack which is what made our offensive play so deadly.

Next week, my aim is to score a minimum of 5 goals so that I stay in the top 3 goal scorers and to help my team once again. I will also play more defensive so that others can have a chance to go upfront and score. I think I will try to do a skill I love doing at least once, the 360 spin, since I am really good at it and it would look good on video.

Planning for International Day

For International Day, I am in a group composed of a Bolivian, and Italian and a French. One of the options which was proposed to us was to take turns in learning people things from our country but we thought that that wouldn't bring the objective of working collaboratively with others so we made the decision to rule that out. Instead we decided to make an activity which was both fun and educative and that involved all our nationalities. We are going to divide people into houses and then they have to answer a quiz which shall have questions on all of our different countries. Before that we shall teach them how to make paper pellets since that brings a more interactive part to the quiz. Once they know how to do them properly, they will be able to test them out on a target we will set in the room so that they have the hang of it. After that is when the quiz starts. At the same time as the quiz we will be playing music from our different countries to create a relaxing atmosphere. We will make sure that the quiz doesn't hold too many questions so that we have time at the end to count up the points and see who is the winner. If there is still time at the end, we will use the skill we taught them i.e. paper pellet making, to kill the remaining time by, for example, letting them test out their skills on whatever/whoever they want.

As for decoration, we plan to put our 3 flags on the door and put pictures around the room of our traditions and things like that e.g. for Bolivia a picture of someone wearing a sombrero or a French person wearing a barrette.

All of this will involve creativity since we need to imagine this and organise this well so that it works out. Also, action will be involved because we will be teaching skills to others and organising our part of international day which combines with service. Working together, undertaking new challenges and developing new skills will be part of the outcome of this event and what it will teach us.

I scored, we lost

I started off playing as a central midfielder today and that position made me more communicative with my team mates for some reason. I kept on calling for the ball and telling them what options they had. I managed to score, however, it was more of a tap-in. Playing as a central midfielder made me more active, determined and involved so I think next week I will ask to once again start off in that position because I feel very comfortable there.

However, I only played as a midfielder for about 30 minutes since I alternated with two other players for that position. As a defender, I wasn't as communicative as when I was playing midfield but I still did communicate a bit with my team mates. I played for aggressively since our opponents were very physical and I couldn't try to restrict myself since I knew they wouldn't.

We ended up losing 4-2 which is a shame since the first goal we let in was because of a bad catch of our replacement goalkeeper which could have triggered a physiological effect on our game. Personally, I think I should have closed down the attackers faster since they were given too much time to control the ball and pass it on which is how they managed to score 2 other goals. The weakness in our team is our attackers and midfielders since our defence gets the job done most of the time but our attack has a lot of issues scoring goals that is why I will ask to play more often in midfield so that I can help our strikers score more often.

Losing Streak

We lost 1-0 today against a team we should have defeated but our midfield and attack was too weak to get many chances at goal. Every time we tried to move forward with the ball, our players would try to show off their skill instead of playing simple which is why we found it hard to score. Our defence was the strongest aspect of the team today since we had the most to do.

I played three different roles today; right defence, sweeper and centre midfielder. The reason for all this change was because I told our coach that I wanted to play a more offensive role so I started of being at the side of the defence since that would give me an opportunity to push up now and then. Near the end of the match I switched with one of my team mates to play in midfield since that is a position I really want to try to play in. Tomorrow, I was told I would start midfield and my goal is to find space by looking around myself more often since today I made it hard for my team mates to make a pass to me since my positioning was off. My passing and running was good but it was the positioning that ruined it. As a defender, I was very communicative especially when my brother was at centre defence with me. I told him where to be and what to do so that the opponents couldn't move towards goal. I gave him tips out of my experience so that he would learn something new which could come in handy for him. This helped me become a better communicator and more caring in a sense which is part of the IB learner profile.

My aim for tomorrow is to have at least one shot at goal or assist two people in having a shot on target since that would help me adapt to my new part-time position. I should put my head up more often since most of the time I am not aware of my surroundings. I will try to give tips to my team mates and not just my brother so that we can all improve as a team and win more games.

Week 3 - HARDCORE

Before going into what this post is all about I just want to make a quick comment. Some of you may have noticed that I have now put titles on my blog entries and I decided to do that to make my blog more inviting and who doesn't like little cheeky titles.

The video I will post later on will show under what circumstances our team was exposed to this week so I encourage you to watch it even though the quality of image isn't so great because the initial video I has to go through a process which requires to change it's file type which diminishes the quality so I have a question for whoever is reading this; could you please leave a comment and say if you would rather a high quality original video or a mediocre quality video with music and text?

This week I think our team came on top once again and I think I scored at least 5 goals. I think our team did well to communicate with each other to help each other out and keep our team organised and in shape. We kept to our man which is why most of the time the opponents found it hard to score against us. On a personal level, I think my passes should have been more accurate since we lost the ball because of some of my passes and on a small pitch we can't afford to lose possession like that. On a technical level, I think I dribbled well as you will see in the video I dribble 3 players and score. My communication has increased drastically since I made my team mates aware of, for example, which player I was marking and that I was going to get the man on the ball. When it comes to one-on-one physical battles I win some, however, I do lose some as well that is why I can't wait to start swimming in order to gain a bit more upper-body strength so I can mostly always win those battles.

Most of the time I found it hard to breathe maybe because of a lack of fitness so to resolve that issue I am going to try and join the running club on Mondays so that my stamina increases.

Next week, I hope to score once again a minimum of 5 goals and keep our team on a winning streak. My aim is to be more communicative even though this week was a huge improvement and maybe try to pass when I'm near the goal instead of trying to score complex shots.

Questionnaires

Today and yesterday, I volunteered myself to help some Yr 11s with their sociology by answering 5 different questionnaires. I answered with total honesty so that I did my part for their data to be as accurate as possible and I took this very seriously. I also helped some friends who didn't understand the wording of some questions and helped them answer the questions or at least comprehend to a level they could answer the questions themselves. This helped me be more communicative, caring and open-minded. I learnt to collaborate with others but I think I could have been more helpful or at least clearer in my definitions to help my friends. I think I should have taken more time to answer the questionnaires so that they would be as valid as possible.

This is a youtube link to the video of me juggling an apple. It is not very long and you shouldn't expect too much of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkZkbc51WBg&feature=youtu.be

Special thanks to Han Zhang for posting this video on youtube so I could offer this thrilling entertainment to you.

Today's hope of swimming drowns

Unfortunately, I needed a health certificate which I don't yet have to enter the swimming pool however I will get one on Saturday so that I can access the swimming pool on Wednesday for 45 minutes. This taught me that you have to be prepared and be informed in advance. However, I was reflective upon this and to replace this CAS activity, I decided to play football with an apple so that I could improve my touch and control. I juggled with the apple and was apple to juggle 10 times in a row and do an "around the world" which I hope to post a video of tomorrow along with the weekly Thursday after school video. This helped me improve skills and undertake a challenge I had never tried before. This made me use my imagination and creativity.

Schedule

This is what my schedule for this week will be and it will more or less stay the same for every week until the end of this term since that is when the football season that I take part in during the week-end ends.

On Wednesdays, I will go swimming in a pool near my house which I can easily access by walking. I will be swimming for 45 minutes for now but, gradually, I will be swimming an hour and every week I will try to swim at least two more lengths than the previous week.

On Thursdays, I will play football after school in the league our school has set up. My goal is to help our team to victory every match and support my team mates. My personal goal is to score a minimum of 3 goals every week.

On Saturdays and Sundays ( dates may vary ), I will play football for the expat / Russian league. My aim here is to try to dribble up with the ball occasionally since that is one of my many talents I have in football but I need to practice with it and not restrict myself. However, I am also aiming to increase my communication skills and to be less shy to make my team mates aware off their surrounding which would help them. I will also suggest tactics we might want to employ during a game since holding the role of centre defence requires communication skills and authority.

For service, I plan to help whoever needs help whenever I can e.g. teachers for certain tasks or French students for something they do not comprehend ( inter-connecting with creativity in a way ). My help is always there for people.

International day is coming up and this will play a big part for my C.A.S since it will involve creativity, service and action at the same time and I will do my best to make that day a success.

Bad Weather, Bad Loss

Today, our team played a match under the rain and lost again a Russian team who had fast and skillful attackers. I think our team didn't pass the ball enough and instead held on it too long which is why we lost it several times. I think I was more communicative today than the other times but didn't go forward enough since I only tried moving up with the ball once. I think I should also call for the ball instead of expecting it to come to me since when I saw that I was open for a back pass I didn't say anything even though my team mate didn't have a lot of open options. If we were more aggressive and offensive we could have put sufficient pressure to have the majority of the possession since the opponents couldn't be able to move with the ball since most of the times they were able to have a shot on goal was because we let them build momentum so it was harder to stop them. Next week, my aim is to go forward at least three times so I can help out the midfielders and attackers and be a more communicative centre defender since, even though I was more communicative today than last week, I wasn't very authoritarian even though my role as the centre of the defence requires that.

Week 2 Thursday Football

I believe that our team came top this week as well since we were the only team not shouting at each other and actually getting along and playing good collaborate football. Personally, I think I should have put my head up more often during games since most of the times, when I was on the ball, I wasn't very aware of my surrounding which is why I think I lost the ball more times than I had to. I tried dribbling with the ball since that was one of my aims and I was mostly successful with that, however, sometimes my touch was too heavy so I had difficulties controlling the ball. Instead of going for goal, I should first look if there is one of my team mates available and who has a better chance of scoring than me since this is a team sport and to win games we have to play as a team. Next week, I will aim to score at least 3 goals since this week I think I was only able to bury 2 shots into the back of the net. I will try to be more aware of the people around me by putting my head up so that I can look for a pass quickly making our team play more fluid.

Translator

One of our teacher was attempting to talk to one of our students in his second language which he isn't fully comfortable using therefore I was asked to aid them since this student spoke french which is my mother-tongue. I helped for any translations which had to be made in order for the student to understand what was going to happen related to his EAL lessons. I think I could have been more clearly when I translated to french because at times I confused myself with what I was trying to say but that is a result of me being a bit rusty in my own native language considering I don't use it most of the day. This made me realise that I needed more practice with my french therefore I will try to use it more often. Communication was the key here and I think this challenge increased my ability to do so and not be so reserved and quiet.

Future Form Tutor?

Our form tutor had to go to a meeting this morning during our registration so I was given charge to hand out letters to my fellow students and take a register of who was present and who wasn't. I waited for the time to be 8.50 exactly to take the register so I wouldn't mark anyone absent or late before it was official. I also waited for everyone to be in the classroom in order to hand out letters to everyone in the room. This was a whole new challenge for me since I had never done such a thing before but I think I handled the situation well even though I had it sprung up at me suddenly. I developed a new skill with this experience, a one of patience and organisation.

The top goal scorers for Thursday after school football

Creative Wall Decoration

Today, I helped friends put some pictures on the wall of our Physics room in order to make it look more lively and attractive. I helped out by giving the pictures to the person standing on the chair stapling. I also helped staple some pictures to contribute to what we were doing a bit more. I gave some advice as to where about on the wall we should place the pictures since the person stapling couldn't always see where was the best position to place the pictures. I think we should have had more than one person stapling so that the process would go faster and already have cut out strips that were used to connect the description to the picture. Not all of us were doing something since at times one of us had nothing to do which is a loss of efficiency on our part. We could have taken more time in planning where we wanted to place things since the wall looked very slightly messy with all the lines connecting the description and picture.

Who said you can't have fun with no opponent?

Yesterday, my team was scheduled to have a football match but the fact that the opposite team wasn't here was problematic. That is why we came up with the idea, instead of just kicking a football into an empty net, that we would play against each other on a smaller pitch.

We divided each other into two teams of six with me as one captain and my brother as the other. I decided to get three other defenders on my team and one attacker so that the opposition would have a lot of troubles getting passed us; and I was right since at the end we scored so many that we lost track of the score.

Physically, I was suffering from a hip injury that stopped me from running long distances but I tried my best to have little sprints to help out my team. I mostly stayed at the back since I knew I couldn't run back fast enough to help my team mates if I decided to go up front. Since it would just a simple match against friends I decided to use as much skill as possible so that I would build the confidence to use those moves again in other matches. That all paid off since I kept on dribbling so many of my opponents that they started to get mad at me since they couldn't get the ball off me. It was the most fun I had in a long time since I got to have fun with friends and also get closer to them since we hadn't really properly bonded before. I think that at times I might have dribbled too much and should have passed it instead to my team mates since I can imagine how annoying it is to have a player keeping the ball all the time but I only started doing this when our victory was obvious. I think that I improved my confidence and developed new skills yesterday and I hope to be able to use these skills next week during a real match.

Beat the English

Today we had a football match against an English team whom we defeated by a significant margin. I played centre defence as oppose to my normal position, left back. My partner at centre back and I communicated well together so it was hard for the opposition to get past our defence which is one of the reasons we were successful today. I made sure I had his back when he attacked the ball so that in case the opponent gets past him I can be there to kick it away and visa versa. I gave tips to my younger brother who was playing with us out of experience and I made him aware of the players around him so he could act from that. We played very well as a team but I think we should have played the ball more out wide instead of channelling the play through the middle since it gave us difficulties to get close to the goal that is why most of our shots were outside the penalty box and weren't always on target. I think that I, personally, should have at times just cleared the ball away from our half instead of playing it too smart e.g. instead of trying to let the ball just roll out, I should have just cleared it since when I tried to do that I lost possession. Compared to Thursdays after school, I feel that my stamina is better but that might just be because there is more fresh air outside so it is easier to breathe. Tomorrow we will have another match and I think I should try out some new tricks when I move upwards to try and improve my skills and so that I get used to them enough to apply them several times during a game. Maybe I should also try to push up front more often and help the midfielders since as a defender I see the options we have at the sides clearer, therefore when I get the ball I can spread the play out to the wings.

Week 1 - The Start

13/09/12
The football season at school properly started today and I was putin a team with pupils from a variety of year groups. Unfortunately, our goalkeeper didn't make an appearance so we had to take turns in goal. I scored atotal of 6 or 7 goals and made some assists. I think this week I was more braveto go up and help the attackers which is why we won most of our games since weattacked and defended as a team efficiently. We set a man-mark in order to keepthe attackers at bay. We passed the ball around well and got on well as a teamwhilst other teams had some arguments. I think that our team will do well alongthe season since we have the mentality of a team and we play well as one aswell. Personally, I think I should have communicated a bit better, e.g. to callfor the ball or tell someone to mark one of the attackers, I was a bit toosilent and I think that is why we let some goals in; because of a lack ofcommunication between us. My fitness level was better than last week so I wasable to endure the matches better. Next week, I will start being more active incommunicating with my team mates in order to know what is happening around usand so we can be more effective defensively and offensively.

Football 101

12/09/12
Today I taught a basic new skill tothree other pupils; to be able to kick a football into a goal well-enough to beable to score a goal. Considering that sports day will be coming up, it seemedto me like a good idea to give tips to others in a sport they will be involvedin so that they can do well in it. I taught them different type of shots youcan make and what kind of body positions you have to be in to make the balltake the direction you want it to e.g. lean back to kick it high or leanforward to kick it low. I also taught them to use the inside of their foot andtheir laces (front of their foot) and what effects it has on the shot i.e.using the inside of your foot will guarantee more accuracy but less powerwhilst your laces will create a more powerful but less accurate shot. Toimprove on the teaching I think I should have thought through what I was goingto say more thoroughly and explained more clearly since at times I think what Isaid was confusing and hard to understand but I tried to explain throughexample which was a good idea. I also think I should have been better preparedmentally since I wasn’t totally sure on what I wanted to do and I only decidedat the last minute when it was my turn to teach a skill. I let the other pupilshave a try at shooting having in mind what I showed and taught them and then Itried to give them tips that I use so that their shots are more accurate e.g.when you use the inside of your foot aim for the post to the side of the footyou are using (for example, if you are right footed aim for the right-handpost) so that it curls back towards the goal and your shot is on target.

Not the best start

08/09/12
The football season for expats juststarted for us and we played against a Russian team whom we lost 5-3 against. We should have spread out the ball more and played the ball faster instead oftrying to dribble through the opponent. I should try to go up front more oftenand try to help the midfield and attackers to move forward since I'm good atdribbling and fast enough to be able to dash along the wing and cross it in orsomething like that. However, I think I would have marked the opponent betterand stopped them from getting a shooting opportunity since they scored twicebecause no one stopped them from shooting. Next week, I will try to be lessafraid to go up even though I'm a defender and try to support the offensiveplayers so that we have more chances at goal. I will also mark my players moreeffectively so that they don't have the chance to build momentum with the ball.

Selections

06/09/12
There was aselection training session today for football after school which I came to takepart in like every year because football is my major sport. There were a lot ofnew faces in the group and we were divided into 3 teams. My team included onenew player to this session and I tried to give him the opportunity to show hisskills in order for him to be able to participle every week here since he hasthe potential to be a skilful individual and also a good team player.Personally, I think my fitness was low since I found it hard to breathethroughout most of the games when I had a few sprint. After the summer it isn’tsurprising such a thing would occur since I didn’t focus on physical exerciseduring this period of time. To solve this issue, I will go to the gym duringweekends in order to keep my fitness and stamina level where it should be; at ahigh standard. On the technical side of the football, I kept my head high to bemore aware of what was happening around me and I focused more on being a teamplayer rather than being a one man team since the sport isn’t about oneindividual but rather a team as a whole.
